The warranty of any product (not Synology related) starts when you buy it, not when the manufactor shipps it to the shops. One of the UPS's at a customers branch office stopped providing power to all the equipment that was plugged into it. The failure coincided with a power loss and a subsequent switch to and then back from generated power (possibly a couple times in a short period). The LEDs on the front show normal operation, however, none of the outlets are outputting anything according to a multimeter. The circuit breaker on the UPS did not trip. The batteries are old, but even if they were bad the unit should still provide power to the outlets (two are unswitched). Is it dead or am I overlooking something obvious?

Next question: The unit in question was a line-interactive unit and not an online/double-conversion unit. I was always under the impression that any UPS connected to generated power should be an online unit due to the ugly wave output that usually comes from a basic genset.

Is that still the case or am I wrong in my thinking? Lastly, this Tripp Lite UPS had an external battery unit connected to it. How long do those normally last? I have no way of knowing how old it is, entering the serial number at the Tripp Lite site returns nothing, and a multimeter would only show current output and not the remaining functional capacity of the battery unit itself. Hi brshoemak, Tripp Lite SMART2200RMXL2U has been an active UPS model since the mid 1990s. Your 9229 date code puts the year of manufacture in 2003. The original battery set is long expired. This UPS type cannot turn on into line power mode and pass power through to the outlets unless the UPS senses that there's a working battery set inside. (You say the LED readout is normal -- which LEDs are lit? Solid or blinking?). If you're looking to replace batteries, there's two possible options depending on what specific version of SMART2200RMXL2U you have -- if the internal battery set inside the UPS is built into a blister pack with a red/black DC connector, buy (see the picture at the link to help you identify what you have).

If the internal battery set inside the UPS contains for 'loose' batteries, buy. Make a detailed diagram of how the original set was wired -- and rebuild the battery pack the same way (or bring it to an electronics tech to rebuild if you prefer).
