I'm kind of a newbie to Windows 7 and virtualization software, so I hope this isn't too stupid. I've been Googling around, but haven't really found much that satisfactorily addresses my question. From an end-user perspective, what's the functional difference between XP Mode and something like DOSBox? I get the impression that it's not a matter of one being better than the other or a matter of preference, but rather a matter of being different tools for different jobs. Thanks, raen Dosbox is for running old Dos games and applications. Windows XP Mode is for running legacy Windwos XP Applications. Windows XP Mode is NOT for gaming.
If you have old Dos games, go with Dosbox. If you have Windows XP applications that won't run on Windows 7, then get XP Mode. Basically when i type the JAZZ prompt it says i need to run setup to configure my sound card.
So i enter setup. Gaming So I open dosbox.74 I mount my c drive mount c c:/dosgames then mount e e:/ -t cdrom then e: install and go thru prompts now the directory that it lists is c: Sierra qganth qg4cd so then I install the full version and finish the prompts and it brings me to this screen. Illegal command drive J. Gaming i downloaded dosbox version.74 and mounted C. The problem im having is: i copied the game i want to play in to my c drive, ( its on cd) from there i right clicked on the folder and renamed it to 'csworld' (where in the world is carmen sandiego), and then enter C: > cd csworld it says unable to.
Gaming Is there any other way to run the Turbo C editor on Windows 7 without using DOSBOx? Something(some tweak or emulator) that runs it only by a double click as in Windows XP and earlier Win versions. With DOS Box, I have to mount the drive every time and retrieving graphics output is tedious.
