I'm pondering getting a woodturning lathe. My father had a Myford ML8 so I've been rather spoilt, but I don't have the room for one and would.

In order to carve wood in a uniform way, you need a Myford woodturning lathe. The machine clamps a piece of wood and then spins it quickly. A carpenter then uses tools to scrape away layers to form a new shape. Banister rails and the legs on wooden tables are often carved in this way. There are many models of Myford woodturning lathes that range in size and capabilities. The portable versions are best for use at home and there are industrial machines that can carve much larger pieces of wood. You can find a new or used lathe on eBay.
